Psycho by Robert Bloch
2.0

A lot of aspects of this story definitely did not age well, considering the link established between gender identity and mental illness. Considering this was written in 1959, I wasn't exactly expecting great representation in these areas. However, in terms of the story itself, establishing tension and setting up the twist, I think the author does a good job. I can imagine that if I wasn't already familiar with film and TV adaptations of Norman Bates, the reveal would have been really impactful. Overall, a quick and easy read. I don't think I would necessarily recommend this, but if you've watched Bates Motel or the movie Psycho and were curious about the source material, I think it's worth checking out
