Wolf Hollow by Lauren Wolk
4.0

From the opening sentence "The year I turned twelve, I learned how to lie" I knew I was in for something special. Reminiscent of To Kill a Mockingbird in its tone and in its plucky, young heroine/narrator, this haunting novel has all the components of a classic. The enigmatic, loner, war-veteran, Toby; the pretty blonde, dark-hearted newcomer student, Betty and a moral dilemma that Annabelle decides is hers alone to handle, I loved the writing and the plot. I'll say no more so no spoilers but I'm predicting now that Wolf Hollow will win a Newberry Medal. Ages 10+.
