Ripe by Sarah Rose Etter

There's a unique tone to this book that makes for an eerie and unsettling read. I loved it. From the parallels between fruit and pregnancy, to the black hole and the toxic work environment, everything was woven together so creatively. The themes of depersonalisation and depression were heavy, but faced head-on which was refreshing, as nothing was sugar coated. Additionally, it's rare to find a story that hits the exact right amount of writing. Some drag on too long, while others are too short and leave you wanting more. This was just right. Another 5/5 of the year.
