Dark Glitter by C.M. Stunich, Tate James

Confusing and Dark, but An Excellent Read

The story is dark, twisted, filled with sex and violence and yet it's also a page turning read.

I debated about reading this one because I'm not a biker book sort of reader. They tend to have some of the qualities of this one with female characters treated like property, reffered to as whores and I find that offensive. Biker books tend to protray a world where turf, property is deemed more important than human life and the idea of that saddens me. Violence is it's own character in bikers books sliding over the setting like a second skin and I'm not one who likes violence without a justified reason. I tend to be a person who believes violence is something used only as a last resort. Save your violence for when using it becomes necessary for the survival of you and yours and keep it buried when it's not. So I don't in general have the sort of personality that a biker book appeals to.

That said this one sweeps over you like a dark spell yanking you into a world you don't fully understand. I think it's strength is actually in it's characters. The main narrator Ciarrah is an amnesiac, with two totured souls in one body blending into one. Neither has their memories in fact, mostly what they remember, what she remembers is flashes of pain and torture. The additional narrators are fae born on the human side of the viel who don't truly remember what They're fighting to restore. While the mistreatment of females is still present that fact that the hunt is led, owned by a woman whose command can't be fought, helps a bit to offset it. That said that portion of the book definitely doesn't appeal to me. Most of the violence seems almost reasonable, though calling this dark and gritty seems a bit of an understatement.

Overall it's a surprisingly good read and I look forward to the next installment.
