This was a different book than the previous in this series. Instead of being told from the POV of Zoe, we see different chapters from different POV's. This did not bother me, as we have been through enough with these characters that I knew them all well enough to keep the different voices straight. I did find it a bit odd that Zoey was still in first person and the remaining character sections were in 3rd person...
This book was more of a bridge between what has happened already in the fight between good and evil/light and dark and the coming "big" battle. Lines are being drawn, characters are lining up on each side, roles are being embraced and the world of vampires as this series describes it are changing. Where you end up with these changes is what is really left to be seen..and can the light/dark battle either end once and for all, or will it resume a sort of balance?
I think the problem I had with this book is that there were too many different story lines...yet they were all needed to make the book a decent length. In some ways it feels like this one was a place holder...like setting up the chess board before you actually get to play.
The writing also did not seem as seamless and flowing as it has in previous books. At times it felt like the story was just wandering around, biding its time, a little lost but enjoying the detour, so in no real hurry to get back to the main road.
I am interested in seeing how this series finally ends and how each of the main characters (and there are a lot of them) end up in the aftermath. Will Zoey still be the High Priestess? Will Nyx forgive Kalona? Will Rephaim embrace his humanity for a life with Stevie Rae? Will Heath find Zoe again?
