This is the best writen book of King, the prose is good and it is consistently good, the plot is progressing evenly, not as blown and meandering as his other work.
But the Massage is evil, toxic male.
Takling about his father: The men always choose pride is his Slogan. So walking away from his family to not see how is wife has to do sexwork, saves his pride. No king you are so wrong. The man lost all pride by walking away, and befor that by not providing for his family, what pride is in abandoning your family non. King has a very worped wordview.
Next is socialism (protective lows for the comman folk) is bad, but King that is exactly what would have brevented your books World from forming, human rights and dignity is socialim, your character hates the World becouse it is not social and hates socialsecurity, he does not want lows that privat the expoitation of the people. The protagonist has exactly the World he wants (without socialism) and is still pissed about it. Oh i know, he is just pisssed he is not one of the exploiters. He is a toxic man that ruint his families future for his pride, he is a loser, he is not fighting the system to great a better future, no he thinks only about himself and his pride. The worst kind of man. He gets a child he can not feed, she brings home the money becouse she needs to sell herself, he is trash. He does not care about his child otherwise he had not got one without the ability to feed it. And he is too proud do get wellfare money. Can he eat his pride? He does not care about the pride of his wife or his child. A sexist toxic male, who thinks he is better without any reason to believe so other then ego. There is nothing he can show, nothing he has to be proud of. His wife has achived more then him. No wonder he goes away to die, becouse he is utter useless for his family, he ruint them. He is a burden.
That male is like MAGA farmer, with illegals as workforce. The leopards not gonna eat his face, i guess.
The mindgame at the end is so bad, it is like a bad version of prince's bride. Inconsivable!
The racism and misogyny, sexism make it a unplassend read, not thought provocing no just unplassend.
