The Seven Year Slip
by Ashley Poston
lighthearted
medium-paced
It’s not hard to see why so many people love this book—endearing characters, just the right amount of spice (perfectly seasoned one might say), a fun time travel twist, and an addressing of real emotional issues like grief and finding ourselves. I really enjoyed it!
Seven Year Slip is about Clementine, who recently lost her beloved aunt and inherited her apartment that sometimes slips 7 years out of time. One day it transfers her back to meet a young aspiring chef who had spent a summer subletting and they feel a spark but can she share her secret, does she want to? Meanwhile, in her present, her job is on the line as she attempts to woo a big time chef’s debut cookbook to her publishing house. I’ll give you one guess who that is. Messiness of the hottest kind ensues.
I didn’t read this as quickly or compulsively as I thought I would but I found myself slipping into Ashley Poston’s world from time to time, happy to be there. I think Iwan is one of the best male love interests I’ve seen in a rom com lately. And although she relied a lot on over the top descriptions of his eyes and the “pop rocks” in her stomach when seeing him (lol) I felt there was a lot of good/realistic growth in him and his ambitions. I also found him so cheeky and sweet. I think where this book lost a star for me was the reasons they were supposed to be kept apart. Just didn’t seem that important to me. And it was quite predictable in how it all unspooled, but I found that comforting in a way. No surprises here, but a heartwarming and no cringing love story. With lots of fun food talk thrown in. I desperately want to make a lemon pie now. 🤤
