Tenderly, it seemed almost painfully, they smilled at one another, saying nothing, and their questions were the same, am I the one you think about, when we made love were you happy, have I hurt you, do you love me, will you always.
I am in shambles. I do not exist. I ceased to exist with this book.
Sally Rooney, I vow to you. I promise I will give another chance to Normal People and I will put you and Beautiful World, Where Are You at the top of the list of my favorite things in the whole world.
I absolutely loved this. I don't know if I'm just talking right now but I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that this book has become my favorite (adult) fiction book in the world. Just like The Poppy War is my favorite fantasy series, and Radio Silence my favorite YA fiction, Beautiful World, Where Are You is my favorite book of adult fiction.
Reading it was like finding out Sally Rooney had gotten to know me personally and then decided to split my personality in two and base two characters and a whole book on it. I felt seen. I could make you a list of why I believe Alice and Eileen are myself. But I will save it for another day.
I loved this book to pieces. I loved the characters, the existential emails, the uncomfortable conversations, the honesty of each interaction and the normalcy of it all. I know for sure that every single person who gets to read this book will find themself in it. Because it's about people like you and me and Alice and Eileen and Felix and Simon.
I'm so grateful that I could read this. I knew from page 1, and even before I opened it, that it would change my life.
