(A warning: I may be giving things away with this review).
In the very beginning of the book I was worried that it was going to turn into a form of the 80's movie 'The Legend of Billie Jean' - the whole 'her-vs.-the-world' thing. It kind of was, but not nearly as corny; and no mentions of scooters, so that's good.

I thought the book was great. It's insane how well Larsson developed these characters and kept them all straight. There was a bit of a lull about half through - political/gov't/police procedure stuff but it was broken up well with the Berger stalker/SMP issues. I was worried the ending would be left with another cliffhanger (bad news since Larsson is no longer alive) but on finishing it, I felt both happy and sad. Happy it was concluded, but sad in that it seemed a little thrown together and that it was indeed THE END.

The trilogoy overall is exceptional. The books are engaging - almost to a debilitating sense as I couldn't put them down or stop mulling about them. Larsson did an amazing job of capturing the characters, making them believable, and writing with a detailed accuracy that makes you feel like his was 'in' with all of this. They are big reads, but it goes quickly with the action and twists. I have to say that I loved, loved the character of Lisbeth Salander. My only complaints re: the series is that I'm really not up to speed on my geography of Stockholm/Sweden nor on the political past & laws of that country. But aside from stumbling over the pronounciations of some of the locations in the book, it didn't deter from the story at all. I don't even think anything is lost in it's translation to English - that's how good the writing in these books are.
