Team Human
by Sarah Rees Brennan, Justine Larbalestier
Mel lives in New Whitby, a town founded by vampires. That doesn't mean she likes vampires--exactly the opposite. She doesn't see the appeal of becoming a vampire or really, having anything to do with them. The same can't be said for Mel's best friend, Cathy.
When a vampire, Francis, starts at their high school, Cathy is enthralled--along with most of the girls in the school. Mel can't stand the guy, who speaks proper English and acts like he's from the 1800s...which he is. Cathy can't seem to get enough of him though, so Mel spends many of her days pointing out all the bad things about Francis.
Then Cathy breaks the bad news and all Mel can think is time is running out to change her mind.
Not quite what I imagined the book would become when I picked it up. I was thinking it would be a parody, but it is so much more. Mel is funny and sarcastic, and her loyalty to her friends is pretty strong. A different take in the middle of all the vampire lore and stories popping up everywhere.
