The Ministry of Utmost Happiness
by Arundhati Roy
Arundhati Roy, the woman that you are! There is so much history and culture and grief and human suffering and the feeling of what it is like to be human. The book is so politically on the nose (as it should be), it is extremely well researched with the beauty of language carefully woven into it. I don't know what else to say other than the fact that every character had depth, every place had history and every word was meant to be understood. There is no subtext here and I applaud Roy for writing the book the way she did.
I consider The God Of Small Things one of my alltimefavs and I am not surprised that tis one is being added to that list but it is for such different reasons. I feel like I have grown as a person because of this book. Hauntingly Poignant!
