The Paleontologist by Luke Dumas

4.0

MY TAKE ON THE SYNOPSIS:
In this story we follow Simon, a Paleontologist with a traumatic past as he takes a job at the very place where his 6 year old sister went missing many years ago. But something is strange about this museum, when the sun goes down, the Dino’s are alive and roaming the halls of the museum making Simon think, who or what took his sister those many years ago?

REVIEW:
I’m gonna be honest, I almost DNF’d this book. Once I hit the halfway mark and the story still continued to be very slow with nothing drastic happening, I was giving up hope. Whenever our main character Simon would finally see something extraordinary that would help move the story along, all of a sudden he’d wake up and think its a dream, this happened way too many times than I felt necessary. It took about 200 pages (or 2/3rds of the story) for it to finally become fast paced but once we got there, this book was definitely hard to put down! I found myself flying through the last 100 pages, waiting at the edge of my seat to see how it ended. There were so many challenges our MC was finally that I had doubts would be able to have been wrapped up in 100 pages but they did it, and they did it beautifully. Overall, the last 100 pages are ultimately what convinced me to up my star rating on this book, making it a solid 4 star read. Now lets get into the PROS and CONS:
PROS: Last 100 pages were unputdownable!, I learned a lot about Dinosaurs and Paleontology, I did NOT see those Plot Twists coming and they made the story even more entertaining, Depression & Trauma Representation, The Ending was wrapped up beautifully
CONS: The first 2/3rds of the book was so SLOWWWWW, Since everything was wrapped up in the last 100 pages I thought that it was all done a little TOO quickly and could have been a little longer, like the pacing had the chance of being more consistent and it would definitely have been a lot more of an enjoyable read if it had done so, Simon annoyed me and made some really stupid decisions that often irritated me

All in all, this book had been more consistent in its pacing but I did enjoy the story overall, it was a fun read with a beautiful message.
