Sanctuary of the Shadow by Aurora Ascher
4.0

This book!!! I ate this book up like it was my last meal on earth!! The pacing of the book is definitely a lot faster than some of the other ones I’ve read, but it was easy to follow.

Harrow is the last of her kind. Her Elemental clan was killed by an infamous wraith assassin. Hiding in a traveling circus, pretending to be human, she works as a fortune teller. Convenient for her, she is actually a Seer who possesses the ability to see into people’s lives. One day while doing her daily scrying, the Water (source of her power) warned her that someone needed her help. Little did she know that the person she is meant to help would drastically change her life.

After helping Raith escape, they end up hiding out in one of the rooms in a tavern. And you probably guessed where this was going…there is only ONE BED!! And let me tell you the spice was spice’n. No slow burn here!! It literally felt like for half the book they were in that small little tavern room. But it was only 5 days. Oh and boy did they have a great time. Until the plot twist shows up and starts cockblocking.

Did I see the twist coming? Absolutely. Was it a little obvious? Duhhhh! Did I care? Not at all. It was nice to see that I was right because that’s what I wanted to happen. It felt so good to know that the book was going the way I wanted it to.

SPOILER: Though I could live without a certain trope.
