The premise was genuinely intriguing — I was interested right from the start. But unfortunately, the execution just didn’t work for me. It might just be me, but the twists felt forced, and I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if I had actually been right about the characters and the direction of the story — that could’ve been satisfying.
Instead, I found myself disliking the characters more and more as the story went on. From Tricia, to Ethan, to EJ, to Dr. Hale — by the end, I pretty much hated all of them. They were all so mind-numbingly selfish, and in some cases (especially Dr. Hale despite being a Psychiatrist MD/pHd as she keeps reminding us), just dumb. I wasn't rooting for anyone, and I didn’t sympathize with any of them.
The only character I actually felt bad for — and liked — was Luke.
As for the ending... it just wasn’t it. I’m honestly surprised by how much I ended up disliking this book, especially because the concept seemed so interesting.
