Behemoth by Scott Westerfeld

Lightweight alt-historical fantasy, and the worldbuilding concepts are fun, but the story never truly grabbed me. I thought Deryn/"Dylan" in particular was too repetitive in her catchphrases: "barking spiders," "blisters," "bumrag," "dummkopf," etc., at least one every sentence it seemed. Points for avoiding the most frustrating YA-isms, though!

As to the audiobook performance, it was also merely okay. The narrator did a good job distinguishing characters even if sometimes his accents leaned towards the cartoonish, but the same tendency in his pace and emphasis was less forgivable. I don't need EVERY other WORD hit HARDer than the REST.
