Complex and deep cultural details to celebrate characters, settings, and groups - the good, bad, and ugly of modern Anishinaabe life in a wonderful YA debut. I realized about 1/4 of the way through that I had no clue what this book was about before reading, and I think having an idea of the intensity would have helped prime me to read it with a certain lens/mindset. SO MANY twists and turns in the final act! I feel like I'd need a reread or additional discussion with other readers just to dive deeper into things I might have missed! Incredible narration. Wonderful heart and very real characters.
I struggled with the romantic relationship between Jamie and Dania because of that agent/CI power dynamic and truthful identity piece. I think it was handled nicely in the end but it was hard for me to sink in to the romance of it. I wonder if I were closer in age to Finish as a reader I'd be ok with it.
