Straight up cried quite a bit reading this book. Definitely hit close to home.
I personally liked this book so much more than the first one. The first one had caricature villians but the villians felt so much more real in this book with fleshed out and well thought characters. The main villians are the friends who bully the new character, though I think the main villian is shown as three dimensional in this book. She is flawed and dealing with her stuff at home. She also realizes in the end that people don't deserve to be treated the way she treated others. The main character is also villian when she pushes the positive people out of her life and does nothing to stop the bullies (at first at least).
I think middle school sucks for everyone but I definitely identified with the main character for trying to fit in and finding themselves in a bad friend group. A lot of people really hate the main character but people forget she's in 8th grade.
Like the last book, there are darker themes such as: depression, loss, and grief that are represented in this book. I do think this book did it better. I think this book really encapsulated feeling like a ghost or invisible in a way that I at least connected to.
I like the new character that is introduced. She felt possibly neurodivergent to me. She's a character whos obsessed with ghosts after feeling like one herself and gets bullied.
I also loved the art as always and the outfits were really cute.
But yea this book definitely hit hard for me. Definitely an emotional read for me.
