Dear Mrs. Bird by AJ Pearce
4.0

As light and plucky a novel can be when set against the backdrop of the WW2 bombing of London. Emmy Lake has just landed her dream job of war correspondent after happening upon an ad in the papers.

Except, the ad was for a junior typist. For the local women’s advice column.

Yes, the book takes some sad and tragic turns, but it’s also laugh out loud funny in parts. The various bits of 1940s British slang were particularly fun. Dear Mrs. Bird was just the tonic I needed to read during these dark days of the pandemic.
