Hmm I wanted to like this more... I straight up had to skip part of the beginning of the book where Kiran, the "hero," humiliates Maeva for being in love with him. Nine years in the future, Kiran collects Maeva to be his horde's healer and his wife. I did like the explanation of why he left her, but gosh the toxic masculinity embedded in this world made it hard to read tbh. Why do horde kings need to be brutally whipped to prove they can lead?! Anyway, if you like childhood friends to lovers and second chance romances, maybe pick this one up. Just wasn't for me.
