I want so desperately to give this book more than five stars.
Stephen King’s debut novel sees Carrie White, a misunderstood and highly unpopular girl, exact revenge on her tormentors during one insanely bloody prom night in 1979.
I’ve seen images from the original Sissy Spacek movie and, thus, thought I knew what it was all about. Sure, the prom scene is known to all to some degree but that is far from the entire story. This book has so much going on and has such a unique blend of means by which it’s told that it is easily King’s coolest and most memorable story.
One tip, if you get this edition with Margaret Atwood’s introduction, DO NOT READ IT! There are spoilers contained in her intro as it seems to assume that everyone has already read it. Wrong. This was my first time reading this book and I already knew a couple key points before starting it thanks to Ms. Atwood. Ugh.
