Suffering Is Never for Nothing by Elisabeth Elliot, Joni Eareckson Tada

5.0

"Isn't that the crux- or the Cross- of sacrifice; my life for yours?" What a life-giving little book on how God creates beauty from ashes. It's only about 150 pages long- six chapters entirely- which makes it easier for someone going through a hard time to digest and not get bogged down. Elisabeth Elliot isn't heady in this book- there's no self-righteousness to be found or guilting for how you might be handling your suffering. Instead, this book is down-to-earth and functional, the way that an older sister might tell you some of the things she learned the hard way. From what I gather, this book was transcribed from Elisabeth Elliot's messages on suffering, which gives it a conversational tone. This will go in the ranks of books that I recommend for anyone going through a tough time- read it if you are.
