This book just didn't click with me. While the craft is there and at first I was brought along by the writing itself, I never bonded with any of the characters. There aren't many characters to begin with, and it is VERY naval-gaze-y. We are deep in the MC's thoughts. Too deep for me. I need a little more movement in the story. I am pretty sure we're leading towards one of two thriller trope twists if anyone wants to spoil me on which it is. I predict either a "secret psychopath" or a "multiple personalities". Am I right?
I will say that the audiobook is really well narrated and the lilting Scottish accent of the reader got me much further into this book than I might have gone. Alas when I start zoning out too much and don't really care what I missed I know the book just isn't for me.
