The Odyssey by Homer
3.0

Reading the Odyssey feels a bit like completing reading homework, but not in a bad way. I'm glad I read it and now I get even more of the references sprinkled throughout all of literature. It's an incredible piece of work, especially considering that we know very little about how old it is or where it originated. There were a few surprises to me, like seeing how little of a story (just a few lines!) the sirens are and how much of the Odyssey focuses on hospitality to strangers, death and killing, eating meals and social status. (3/5 stars.)
