A museum piece. Much less weird than I expected based on reputation, indulges in all the stylistic quirks of the era, follows a dull man who wanders around seeing spooky stuff. It is frankly not very good. a ruthless editor might have turned it into a good short story. But it's atmosphere is spectacular stuff, even if it's nonsense, and you can see this thing's DNA all over the genre. Fun and worth excavating
