REVIEW:
Immortals After Dark is one of my all time favorite series and I'm excited to see Kresley Cole writing them again. Although I do hope we get back to some of the core characters and approach a wrap up of the overarching plot. I'd be so happy if she started regularly releasing these again! I still love them so much and want more from the Lore!
This release is a shorter story and is about Rök -- who first appeared as part of Cade's second in command on his crew of mercenaries (in Dark Desires After Dusk). Poppy is a new character (as far as I'm aware), although her and Rök have known each other for a few years (off page).
I love the concept of this one being about all the classic Halloween stories, characters, and nightmares come to life. It's kind of a nice nod to all those stories. And spending the night in the spooky castle. Pretty cool!
Unfortunately it wasn't as good as her previous books though. It was just a little boring.
My most favorite stories from this series are the ones with lots of adventures. Like No Rest for the Wicked, where they bounce around the globe as they participate in the Lore's Hie games (basically a dangerous paranormal scavenger hunt). Or Pleasure of a Dark Prince where they take a wild trip on a boat down the Amazon. Or Dark Skye where they are portal hopping to lots of different interesting worlds and dimensions in an effort to get home. To me, these types of adventure books are the best in the series. But I do love most of the books in this series, even the ones without an adventure/journey plot.
This one felt a little boring though because they didn't actually interact with anyone else in the Lore. They are in their own little bubble and it just felt kind of slow paced because of it.
I did like both of the MC's and they had good chemistry. I loved the humor, which is always so fun in this series. And I still love the rich world building.
But overall this was a bit of a disappointment after waiting so long for a new release. I'm hopeful she will be more on the ball with releases at this point though because she finally wrapped up her long-going YA series (The Arcana Chronicles), so maybe she will put all her focus back on this series. Please!
