I am really enjoying this series. This 2nd book was harder for me to stay interested in for a couple reasons though. 1, I do not understand or care for Queen Malina's story arc. I don't get the relevance, it is uninteresting, and just seems pointless. Im interested to see if her arc becomes important later on though. And 2, the romance building between Auren and Rip seems almost forced. I love enemies to lovers, but I am missing something... maybe its Rips POV - if I had that, I could better understand why he seems to care for Auren, because he really has no reason to be interested that I can tell. Maybe that, too, will be revealed in later books? Despite these couple of questions, I love a slow burn and the little bits of tension were delicious! Also, the book gave me those gut-wrenching feels that I love, and even better, they came not just from tension between Rip and Auren, but from the hurt Auren feels at being shunned by the saddles, or not finding Digby, or feeling embarrassed or ashamed by Fourth's army. Any book that can make me feel something deserves 5 stars imho.
