Dirty Curve

My tagged shelves can be spoilers
This is very much a dislike to lovers, slow burn. & yet I was entertained the whole way through, whereas most slow burns I tend to get bored. The tutor girl x athlete scenario was pretty predictable (as usual imo), but I still liked it -- reminded me of Hailey and Nathan from One Tree Hill a little lol.
The first 28% of this I definitely didn't like Tobias. He is the quintessential fuckboy, player, college athlete. He thinks he walks on water and that if a girl isn't begging to give him a blowjob, then they're either lying or there's something wrong with them. You might think to DNF early because of his attitude but if you remind yourself, he's the classic college idiot in all the romcoms we love, you'll end up liking him and the book a lot, I think! For me, I was eager to keep reading because I knew he was going to get a healthy dose of reality with Meyer.
For Meyer -- I really liked her as an FMC. She was sassy and funny underneath her walls of protection. Also, really liked how she both put Tobias in his place/humbled him and saw the deeper layers underneath the playboy outer shell.
The tension between Meyer and Tobias in the first half created good chemistry and made up for the lower spice level for me (as someone who enjoys a much smuttier romance). I liked how Tobias' attitude changed with Meyer once he found out about Bailey and his interactions with "baby B" were so adorable. He definitely fell first and when he would show his vulnerability, I softened to him a lot more. His possessiveness was also pretty spectacular.
There was obviously some secrets Meyer had and more going on with Tobias' coach than he or we knew. That suspense and intrigue definitely kept me hooked. I bounced between "I definitely know the twist" to "hmmm maybe it's this instead" to "no, no definitely first guess", to "wait... what!", to "omg wth?" so good job on the author for that lol.
The angst in the last 30% definitely had me a bit emotional because of how much both were hurting. & I do wish the last 5% would have been fleshed out a bit more to have more of a reunion after the outside angst.
But overall, this was a good dislike to love, opposites attract romance.
