The Girl With All the Gifts
by M. R. Carey
The book starts from the perspective of Melanie, a young girl who is being held in a military base completely isolated from other people for the majority of the time. From this unique beginning, it only spirals outward into a wider and more terrifying reality. Not really much else I can say without it being spoilery except that the ending manages to be both heartbreaking and a little bit hopeful. I thoroughly enjoyed this fascinating trip through a vivid world and the complicated characters that fill it.
