Tate and Rowen had such a dark past, honestly my jaw dropped when I found out, I didn't expect something so fucked up at all. I might be a little critical, but considering what Tate went through as a child and now as an adult, I don't know why she acted so calmly—like nothing had happened, like it was her weekly routine—when she was kidnapped by Eli, King, and Rowen. Seriously, I know everyone is different and reacts to different situations and deals with trauma differently, but I was really surprised that she wasn't more, I don't know, withdrawn, distrustful, combative, hostile towards her kidnappers (and her explanation that they were "oh so hot" doesn't mean that you should be less afraid of them, since when does appearance determine a person's character and the cruel things they're capable of), but rather seemed to accept it, and when King told her they were going to hand her over to a rival gang in exchange for control of the city, she got angry, but within two seconds she was fucking him on the bathroom sink, like girl?? 🤔🤦♀️ It didn't make any sense to me. Considering how she dealt with her husband, how she planned everything, as it later turned out, at that moment she seemed to me like a smart, cunning girl, which was quite a contrast to how she behaved at the very beginning of the abduction – like two people with completely different mindsets, it confused me a bit. I think that if this part of the book had been written differently, as if Tate had actually used her brain, her innate instincts, and acted appropriately to the situation she found herself in, instead of thinking with her lady bits and fantasizing about how hot these guys were, I would definitely have liked the book more. And the sex between the characters was definitely too early for such complicated, unusual circumstances.
