Mother Knows Best: A Tale of the Old Witch
by Serena Valentino
Okay, so I read most of this in a single night and then the last pages in 2. Definitely could have finished it in one but I was waaaaay too tired. This series is one of those that I will always read but the first 2 were the best (Evil Queen and Beast). The ones after that have just been sub par. My biggest issue with Ursula was that it was all about the Odd Sisters. And it turns out there will be a book devoted just to them - and I'm fine with that, but I already feel like I know enough about them that I don't need more. I'd rather have more about the villans - Scar (IDC that he is a lion!), The Witch Doctor from Princess and the Frog, Lady Tremaine, etc. There are so many more, I don't need the Odd Sisters.
The storyline is interesting - how Gothel got to be the way she was - but much of it was all over the place and jumpy. I feel like many conversations fell flat and were just a bit forced. As with the others, many of the back stories feel a bit too fantastic. Yes, I know it's a fairy tale but this goes a little beyond even that.
But, as I said, I'll keep at it as long as they come out. I enjoy it enough and its entertaining.
