Ok, the plot of this is your pretty standard cliche young adult book. Nothing here we haven't seen before. Why then am I giving it five stars? Because the characters are so incredibly well written and relatable. They felt like people I knew and not just characters in a book. So well rounded and grounded. It was great to read a book about teenagers who weren't constantly having sex or drinking or doing drugs. These characters felt much closer to my teenage experience so I could relate to them more. People who enjoy random trivia and can quote tv shows from memory. Yeah, those are my type of people.
Also, I found myself really relating to the main character and her struggle to open herself back up to love. That really resonated with me and where I'm at in my life. And don't even get me started on how much I resonated with her hurting Max. That part hit me like a ton of bricks.
Overall, I found myself deeply impressed with this book. I went into it not sure what to expect from it. What I got was worth the time I invested. A stunningly beautiful, well written book with relatable, interesting characters and some powerful truths about life. It is hard enough to find that from most non YA books! This is one that I will be recommending to everyone I know!
