After a delicious first book in this series, I was so thirsty to for the other Savannah Heirs to get their story- and none made me as curious as Godfrey- the manipulative, arrogant, brash heir- and most certainly the most cruel. Even better, Cora and Raven decided to pair him with Rachel- the broken survivor we only just met, a character whose trauma and baggage is perhaps the LEAST cared for under the eye of our most sadistic heir.

But Godfrey surprises- and I loved how the authors did not soften him, rather they just gave him nuance. He's complicated, and complex, no less dark but with more emotional depth than meets the eye- or that even his friends recognized.

And Rachel- oh wow. What a heroine- a true survivor. While some of the bully elements and darkness from book one are still here, this story has a much darker turn because of the background of our broken heroine as she tries to face her trauma. But while she's broken, she's is not weak, she battles for every moment as she tries to find her path forward. And Godfrey, our cold heir, becomes her guiding light, the solid safety she needs to heal and recover, even if they are resistant to each other at first.

Their path to finding each other is more emotional than anything- this is about the emotional obstacles, the metaphysical barriers that prevent people from risking love...and also hold people back from healing. Of course, though, we still have all the heirs drama and suspense and plenty of danger.

I loved this one even more than the first!
