Animal Dreams
by Barbara Kingsolver
This has been my favorite Kingsolver book out of the four I've read. This work touched on some themes that we all feel but rarely have the words for, or at least, the courage to put into words. Lost children, to relationships that are strained by our own weird upbringings, situations that are untenable and beyond our control. I figured Animal Dreams would be more focused on the Southwest, which it is, but the characters are real enough to be in any area with a culture of its own. This is more a work that happens to take place in the Southwest, however, so much of the culture makes its way into the book, in a way that isn't hokey or lacking authenticity. It's a book I'll be thinking about for some time to come.
