Did not finish book.

unreadable - DNF at 20%. I do not understand the praise this got - the premise is fun, sure, but the writing is just stupid. Twenty-dollar words used inappropriately, painfully awkward "tell not show" exposition, ludicrous non-science, and one-dimensional characters with no depth or personality at all, just a caricature based on a single driving attribute. It's just a terrible soap opera, but with mermaids. Not even remotely what I was expecting, given the impression I had before starting.
