Lady of Darkness
by Melissa K. Roehrich
This book was fantastic. It started off with lots of typical NA fantasy setup; parentless child, trained killer, kingdom politics, history of war between beings, all the good things we are looking for. It very quickly found its own though. I love the writing style, and the plot and world building is well paced and strategically placed. The romance is a slow burn but doesn't feel agonizing and feels like a really natural build. Scarlett is young, and so there is definitely some nativity/immaturity, but she is a badass, and hardened, and I can't wait to see her character growth. I was hooked right from the beginning but at some point there was another tug that really sucked me in, because I can't stop thinking about it and can't wait to get to the rest of the series.
