Because of how important and impactful reading was to me as a child, as an adult I still love to indulge in children's stories. This is partly in some neverending quest to scratch the itch of nostalgia, but also because I have always collected books with my future children in mind.

Wildly, I never managed to read the Chronicles of Narnia as a kid - it was already a time where everyone was saying "well actually, technically you should read The Magician's Nephew first" and those people were all very wrong. In my young adult life I learnt the value of reading author's works in the order they wrote them (series or not) rather than whatever timeline people like to ascribe to them.

I think this is the perfect children's book (Christian allegory aside) - the pacing of events is just right, the conversational nature of the narrator (very common back then, is the same reason I loved Peter Pan) is engaging and funny, and the worldbuilding is done with a light hand, so that you would never feel lost or confused as to why things are happening.

I've never even seen beyond the first Narnia movie, so I'm very keen to read more now that I'm going in completely blind.
