fleygotrophy 's review for:
Castle in the Air
by Diana Wynne Jones
adventurous
mysterious
slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
A mix
Strong character development:
Complicated
Loveable characters:
Complicated
Diverse cast of characters:
No
Flaws of characters a main focus:
Complicated
- the main character was kind of blank, leaving room to be a self-insert, but I'm not the target audience
- Interesting story elements I usually don't see in novels (flying carpets, djinns, shape-shifting, very ominous, but fascinatingly described scenes of magic (soft magic system) )
- superficial portrayal of love, primarily focussed on:love on first sight, stereotypes of men and women
- 2/3 of the book were kind of boring to me, the latter third was interesting, introducing more explanations and connections between people
All in all some interesting concepts, but delivered in a way that isn't to my specofic taste.
I read it anyway to learn more about the world of Howl's Moving Castle.
I imagine that children would enjoy this book very much, because it feels mysterious, adventurous, but is somewhat tame and chill in general.
