The Salt Roads by Nalo Hopkinson

slow-paced

3.5

certainly challenges my assumptions of what I assumed the older SFF works would be like.
but no suprise, my favourite parts included the more magical parts and its queer themes. Since many of the characters are based on real-life individuals, that knowledge might change my experience.

[Unrelated but delightful coincidence instead, I've started reading through the QUILTBAG + Speculative Classics series from Bogi Takács hosted on tor.com and I've been enjoying their insight and care when exploring older works. It makes me want to give such books like this one a proper try.]
