Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
5.0
Rainbow Rowell, please write us more Eleanor and Park. PLEASE.
I was in high school in the 80s - late 80s, not mid 80s, but this book spoke to me on a visceral level as shared experience of someone who didn't quite fit the standard in high school. This book spoke to me as someone who has been through foster parent training in telling the story of a character with a painfully difficult home life.
Ms. Rowell's best work often leaves me keening in the car over precious babies. This was no different. It took some acclimating to the multiple-viewpoint format, but the story picked me up by the scruff of the neck and dragged me into the weeds with Eleanor and Park, wishing them well and feeling their ups and downs along with them.
I loved this book with my whole heart.
