mulrine 's review for:
The Ministry for the Future
by Kim Stanley Robinson
challenging
hopeful
informative
slow-paced
Well, that was sprawling! But in a way that I ate up. This novel blends quite a lot of borderline academic science, economics, sociology, etc with an unfolding story of those trying to avert the worst of the climate crisis.
I listened to this book mostly whilst driving to and from picket lines whilst on strike, so I am probably already a sympathetic reader as someone who is active in fighting for social justice.
This novel was fantastic and as someone deeply cynical and sometimes fatalistic, to see a more hopeful version of the future unfold and just allow that story to be told without too much internal 'but that wouldn't happen', etc was actually a really enjoyable experience.
