Das magische Baumhaus Bd. 48 - Das Geheimnis des Zauberkünstlers by Mary Pope Osborne
3.0
Hurry Up, Houdini! by Mary Pope Osborne (book) This a young readers book from the Magic Tree House. My kid picked this chapter book out from his school library. We wanted to read it fast because we only had a week to read it! The author writes about a brother sister combo who provides life lessons. In this one their lesson is humility and hard work. I like that there was a little feminist twist. The kids travel back in time to meet The Great Houdini and his wife/apprentice, Bess. But instead of learning a lesson from the famous magician, they learn from Bess. I also liked that the author actually does her research. The historical people are real and their characteristics and likings. It was fun to figure out climax with my son. We were both shocked! The only thing that bothered me is there is a “magic powder” the kids inhale to become “magical” and have extra confidence to do things they typically can’t on their own without the magical powder - ummm not sure I like this idea. Think about it …
