Bury Our Bones in The Midnight Soul by V. E. Schwab was a beautifully written deep dive into three main characters who represent different responses to victimhood. I loved the changes in perspective throughout this novel as the pieces fell together to bridge the gap between the three central figures of this novel. This novel takes themes of pain and love and twists them every way it can to pain a beautiful picture of less than ideal lives. It centers on three women who couldn’t be more different, but these women share similarities that under better or different circumstances could have drastically changed their interactions with one another. I particularly loved the culmination of the novel, but I did feel like it was a little curt after the harrowing tales we witness throughout the novel. Overall, if you’re looking for a novel with deeply flawed but realistic (and well flushed out) female characters, this should absolutely make your TBR. Though a slower plot, the character development is near unmatched and makes this read worth the time.
