This book felt like two very distinct books, that would have benefited from being two separate novels. That were fleshed out instead with more world building, and character development, Possibly even another POV. (I'd recommend Jenny since we see her once already at the beginning of the book.)

But instead I was left feeling like I picked up two 62,000 word fanfics, possibly set in a series. But when you are reading these it feels like you are supposed to already know about this world and the events within it. You know more about the other characters because there is more to base them off of.
AND IF IT WAS I would have very likely thought it was an awesome fic.

BUT THIS IS NOT THAT! So you are left wanting.

Which stinks because Mikuta begins touching on some really interesting ideas but none of them are really delved into, they are something that we only get as an afterthought towards the end.
I also would have loved to have known more about how they were running the city once they took over and how community may have looked different between those coming from the badlands and those from the cities...
