Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer

5.0

I savored this lovely, poetic book, reading it a chapter at a time. Using traditional Indigenous teachings, her botanist understanding of the world, and stories with universal appeal about her lived experience growing up, raising children, and adjusting to her “empty nest”, Kimmerer shows us how connected we all are to the natural world. The central idea of the book is to counter the settler-colonial ideal of rights to land and resources, with Indigenous ideals of our responsibilities and obligations to the land and the resources it provides.
