Tomb of Sand
by Geetanjali Shree
Not as good as I had hoped.
The themes that are explored are indeed interesting. Transgression of borders wherever they might be. An interesting tale of old age or in some instances the reversal of age. But it really was too long. Way too long. I think this sparked a deadly spiral since I couldn't remember all of the characters all the time and everything got a little fuzzy and so I was living moment to moment.
This doesn't have to be a bad thing but the language wasn't as good as I had hoped. It really is playful, very much so at times but in a childish way - a positively childish way! It lacks the exquisiteness of Maddie Mortimer's style where the playfulness feels like a law of nature, a natural flow. My favourite part was probably the one where she became the light of the apartment.
Tl:Dr - too long, not enough to sustain it
