I thought this was an excellent debut. I had no problem with the pacing, because I found Mary's background interesting and a relevant part of the build-up to that final scene on the coast. So much of being a woman is like that -- a hundred slights that you try to dismiss or put behind you because there's either not much you can do or you've been conditioned to be nice, polite, and *always* take the high road. I wasn't upset about the pacing; it felt real. Please give this book a try if you're in a place to read a book that tackles all of that and rages against it, all with the horror of Frankenstein.
