I wish I never read The Silent Patient. I was really excited about it after hearing so many great things about it and the shocking twist. It wasn’t worth it. I regularly think back on just how horrible this book was and I regret that it is in my memory. While it is interesting in concept, the female characters have no depth and are shells of stereotypes including a damsel in distress. Some could say that it’s all part of the narrators viewpoint and how he sees himself and his relationship to the women around him, but I would rather read a book that didn’t reek of being written by a white man.
Graphic: Mental illness, Forced institutionalization, Medical trauma, Gaslighting
Moderate: Misogyny, Stalking
