The Silver Collar by Antonia Hodgson
4.0

This historical mystery set in 1728 is the fourth book in the Thomas Hawkins series. I haven’t read any of the other books but found the story easy to immerse myself in. There were snippets of back story as and when required in order to follow along with the new narrative.

The time period was expertly fleshed out, from the world building to the mindset of the characters. I liked Thomas and Kitty. Their characters bounced off each other really well. Both were quite forward thinking for the time and their quick wit kept me entertained.

My favourite character though, was actually a side character. Sam, Thomas’ ward, was fascinating and I would love him to get his own book!

The plot was well paced, and I enjoyed the switch between POVs. I found Jeremiah’s story absolutely compelling. And then the chapters from Kitty’s POV were done very well. I enjoyed the way the author switched this up. It felt authentic and exactly how events would have played out. Very grim and frightening how little power a woman had over her own wellbeing in those times.

Overall, an enjoyable read with lots of twists and turns. Great for any historical fans out there.
