Say You'll Remember Me by Katie McGarry

3.0

3.5 stars- I had a good time reading this book. I felt connected to these characters. It felt as if I was right in the middle of the drama and could fell the emotions they were feeling. I loved seeing Drix go through the journey of admitting his faults and grow into a better person. I also think that this book shed some light on the challenges that youths in poorer neighborhoods face. Drix's story line is what had me pushing through the book. As for as the romance goes, I feel like it was a little insta-lovey. I would have liked to see them actually get to know each other before the I love you's started flying. As much as I loved Drix's story, I felt that Elle's was underdeveloped. After Drix's showed up it felt like all she cared about was getting to be with him and we kinda lost her story. I also felt like there was some emotional and physical abuse from her parents that was just brushed over. The biggest problem I had in this book was the writing. Some themes and messages were written over and over so much that they became repetitive and boring. There was times where I would have liked more description (like don't tell me a character is sad, show me they are sad). Also, and this may be a personal preference, don't use words like 'frick' or 'dropping the f-bomb' just cuss! Using words like that cheapens the book.
SpoilerAlso, killing the dog was a low blow!! It was just there to add some emotions to an already emotional situation. There was no reason Thor had to suffer to pull a few heart strings!

Overall, I think this book had a great story line and good character development. I enjoyed reading this book.
