Unspeakable
by Kevin O'Brien
Really a very interesting tale of a troubled boy who doesn't understand why he's troubled or why so much trauma and tragedy follows him at every turn.
If you're kind of a skeptic about hypnosis and know much about psychology, this is likely to be a frustrating read for you in terms of seeing it as possible or likely. But if you're open-minded about interesting reads and stories with twists and turns that try to tell a different story than the same old ones that have been in circulation for ages, you'll probably enjoy it. I liked this book a lot, and typically I tell my husband about the plot of every book I'm reading and explain every twist and turn, but in this case, I refrained, in case he wanted to read it himself at some point. It's not my new favorite book, but given the chance, I would definitely read it again if I had it to do over again. I liked the twists and turns of the story and the feeling that there's a lot at stake at every point, and I enjoyed the resolution a lot. I also really liked that I wasn't able to quite predict the twist. Without giving too much away, let me just say that I'd rather have a good twist with lots of emotion that leaves me going, "Ohhhh! Wait, really?! What?!" than one that makes total logical sense in a real-world way but is emotionally flat, and I got the former out of this ending. It was what I was looking for!
